ready for sampling distribution of the mean?
September 14, 2009
Stat Scholars,
Here is the plan. I’ve got MWTr test graded and will pass them back today. TTrF will be ready by morning.
I want everyone to go home and correct your mistakes. Feel free to do it in groups. (perhaps I should put you into groups???) Many of you will see this again. We need positive transfer of your theoretical normal curve skills to our inferential tests.
In addition, Start reading chapter 9. It is probably the most important chapter in the book for us. We will work our way through it over the next few weeks. I also want you to go to the following website and play with the java application that demonstrates the sampling distribution of the means. Visit the site after reading about it, then perhaps read it again.
Finishing up t-tests
March 8, 2009
So we’ll take our t-test test on Tuesday.
Be sure and re-read your chapters. Again, we’ll start with some closed book work, then move to hand calculations.
Reading materials on hypothesis testing are available in the library on reserve.
Additionally, I’d encourage everyone to review our t-test SPSS materials on the SPSS screencasting website.

Lab day on Thursday, then a test over Mod 2 on Tuesday.
March 4, 2009
Let’s plan on going over our homework tomorrow, we’ll do it (if applicable in SPSS). You should find a handout for Independent and Dependent problems on the content page or in the podcast.
See you all tomorrow… hopefully prepared to get some work one this time.
At this time I’d like to see us take the test on Tuesday. There is no reason we shouldn’t be ready.

finishing up the semester!
November 30, 2008
Here’s how it’s gonna go:
We will take our final test over the regression chapter on Monday or Tuesday (depending on which class you are enrolled in). I will be prepared to get that exam graded and back to you ASAP so that you may make corrections and be as prepared as possible to succeed on the final examination. My current idea is to leave your graded exam in the office with Ms. Keller on Wednesday, perhaps Tuesday afternoon . You will need to bring your student ID with you to get your test.
The final exam will only take place during the final exam periods as designated by the VPAA’s office. This schedule was known to you when you registered for the class and the calender link was shared with you in my syllabus for the class. Here is the link again. Study it for all your courses. If you have three exams on the same day it is appropriate to ask to have the middle exam moved. This will give you time to prepare between exams and is the intelligent decision. I will check your schedule in banner, so don’t lie to me about three exams (it has happened before, one year a guy got married and scheduled his honeymoon during finals week).
The final exam will be in sections and will represent all four of our previous exams. You may take any (or all) of the exams and improve your grade by showing me that you have mastered the material. You will have the full two hours to take the exam. If you have an official and documented disability that allows you extra-time you need to let me know and I will send your exam to the testing office. Send me an email or tell me next week so that I can make arrangements.
We will take the closed book part first, followed by open book sections. Make sure you have your text (tables), calculator, scratch paper, etc.
The MW 3 p.m. class will take the exam in Dunlap 104 on Friday, December 5th between 3:30 and 5:30.
The TTR 9:35 a.m. class will take the exam in Dunlap 104 on Tuesday, Decemebr 9th between 10:30 and 12:30.
Exam #3
November 18, 2008
TTR class… if you want to get started a little early come on over, the room is free. some folks ran over by 10 minutes yesterday, so we can start 10 minutes earlier.
Somebody should call K-mart and make sure she is here on time at the latest today.
Two more classes, then our ANOVA test.
November 10, 2008
This week we will go over Factorial ANOVAs in class from a theoretical perspective, then we will do some SPSS work on independent and dependent oneway ANOVAs, finishing with factorial ANOVAs. Bring your extra-HW files for our SPSS day.
We’ll follow that up with tests on Monday and Tuesday respectively.
The answers to the even numbered problems in our text that I suggested you do are also on the content page.
R U prepared 4 the exam?
September 15, 2008
Bring some pencils, paper and a calculator. You will not be allowed to use your cell phone calculator, turn it off, better yet, leave it at home for the day. Your neighbors will not be happy when they are trying to concentrate and your phone is singing.
You should also bring your book as you will most likely be using the tables in the back of it. I’d also bring my notes and the problems you worked by hand.
First exam
September 11, 2008
… will be on Monday and Tuesday. It will cover everything we have covered thus far. Because of the slowness of getting the macs a clean image we will only be working with paper and pencil this time. There will be a closed book section, then an open book, open calculator problem solving section. (It’s all closed neighbor.)
If I were you, I’d work the suggested homework problems and then reflect on how comfortable I am with the questions. If you are not more comfortable, work more problems and organize study groups to solve confusing problems together.
